A teenage girl is in a stable condition in hospital after contracting meningococcal disease.

The 13-year-old from metropolitan Adelaide is the fourth case of the disease this year, compared to 23 cases at the same time last year.

Health officials have identified multiple close contacts of the girl and have given seven of them antibiotics as a precaution.

Of the four cases two have been of the B strain, one the Y strain, while the latest case is yet to be identified.

A total of 27 cases were reported last year, comprising 19 of the B strain, four of the W strain and four of the Y strain.
