A FIVE-week old baby boy from metropolitan Adelaide is in hospital after contracting invasive meningococcal disease.
It is the third case of the disease to strike in Adelaide in the past three days.
The baby is in a stable condition and the strain of the disease is yet to be established.
“SA Health has identified multiple people who had contact with the patient and four close contacts have been directed to receive clearance antibiotics,” an SA Health statement read.
There have been 28 cases of invasive meningococcal disease in SA this year, compared to 34 at the same time last year.
A 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital in a critical condition on Friday after contracting the disease and a 56-year-old man was admitted in a serious condition after contracting the W strain of the disease.
Both patients are from Adelaide and no links have been established between the three cases.
