SA man recovering from Men B

A case of invasive meningococcal disease has been notified in a 45-year-old male from metropolitan Adelaide, who is in a stable condition in hospital.

The strain has been identified as serogroup B.

SA Health has identified people who have had contact with the patient, with one person being directed to receive clearance antibiotics.

Meningococcal health information has been distributed to contacts in accordance with the Invasive Meningococcal Disease Communicable Diseases Network Australia:National Guidelines for Public Health Units.

This is the second case of invasive meningococcal disease reported in South Australia this year, compared to four cases recorded at the same time last year.

A total of 27 cases were reported in 2019; 19 were serogroup B, four were serogroup W, and four were serogroup Y.
